When to use a random number from 1 to 2
A random number between 1 and 2 is the purest 50/50 decision there is — a coin flip without the coin. Use it to decide which of two players goes first, which of two restaurants wins tonight, which team gets the ball, or whether to take option 1 or option 2 on a choose-your-own-adventure page. Teachers use 1-or-2 to split a class into two groups on the fly, and gamers use it to settle who picks first in a draft. Because the generator uses your browser’s cryptographic randomness, neither number is ever favoured, no matter how many times you click.
There are 2 possible results in this range: 1 even and 1 odd numbers, including 1 prime. Over many picks the average result settles near 1.5. If you allow repeats, the chance of drawing the same number twice in a row is 1 in 2, and after about 2 picks a repeat becomes more likely than not.
How to use the Random Number 1-2

Pick a number between 1 and 2
To pick a number between 1 and 2 fairly, every one of the 2 numbers must have the same chance. People asked to “think of a number” are not random — they avoid the ends of the range and favour odd numbers and sevens. This tool uses crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling, so there is no bias toward any number. Results 1 and 2 are exactly as likely as each other.
Nothing is stored or sent anywhere: numbers are generated in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
Is this 1–2 number generator truly random?
It uses your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator with rejection sampling, so each of the 2 numbers has exactly a 50% chance.
Is picking between 1 and 2 the same as flipping a coin?
Mathematically, yes: each number has exactly a 50% chance, just like heads or tails on a fair coin.
How often will I get the same number twice in a row?
Half the time. With only two options, repeats are very common — that’s normal randomness, not a bug.
Can I change the range?
Yes. Edit the Min and Max boxes in the generator, or open the main random number generator for any range.
